The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at The University of Western Ontario offers the following programs:
I - Graduate research programs leading to a degree in:
-
Master of Engineering Science (MESc)
-
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
-
Accelerated Masters (for UWO undergraduate students only)
-
Direct-PhD (without Masters)
II - Graduate Professional program or course-based Master of Engineering/MEng
The objective of this program is to permit the student to broaden and deepen his or her education within a time limited framework. This degree also provides practicing engineers an opportunity to upgrade their technical knowledge to meet the demands for technological advancements in their fields. M.Eng. programs are focused to become an effective tool to address the significant need for education and integration of internationally trained engineers (ITE). It provides new Canadians who are trained further in engineering outside Canada(i.e. ITE), with a venue to update their knowledge in accordance with the needs of the Canadian technology sector. The dominant method used to achieve these goals is through course-work instruction where the research training is achieved through independent projects and reports associated with the courses. Interested students have an opportunity to work on more significant projects whose weight is equal to two half courses.
Currently, the following programs are available:
-
Professional (MEng) Program in Automation Technologies & Systems
-
Professional (MEng) Program in Materials & Solid Mechanics
-
Professional (MEng) Program in Thermofluids
-
Professional (MEng) Program in Mechanical Engineering
-
General Mechanical option
-
Engineering in Medicine option
-
III- Non-degree part-time Studies
Non-degree
part-time students must meet normal admission requirements. If a student
in this category is subsequently admitted to a degree program, no more
than 20% of the course requirements for the degree may be credited from
courses taken while a non-degree student. Non-degree part-time students
are not required to maintain continuous registration. For each term in
which they are registered, however, they must inform their Graduate
Chair before the start of the next term whether they plan to take
courses during that term or whether they plan to withdraw. Without
withdrawal, they will receive a tuition bill for the following term, as
if they were in a degree program. Once withdrawn, they must apply for
readmission to resume their non-degree part-time studies. In such cases,
the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies waives the readmission
fee. (SGPS
