The Thermofluids group includes research projects in: theoretical fluid mechanics of Newtonian and non-Newtonian flows, hydrodynamic stability, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), convective heat transfer, turbulence modeling, microfluidics, energy systems and experimental techniques 

 

J. M. Floryan, P.Eng., Ph.D. (Virginia Tech. USA), Professor
Research interests include
flow Control; flow manipulation; hydrodynamic stability; boundary layers; laminar-turbulent transition; interfacial fluid mechanics; thermocapillary flows; convection; rupture problems; moving boundary problems; spectral methods; direct solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations.

R. E. Khayat, Ph.D. (McGill, Canada), Professor

Research interests include polymer processing; linear and nonlinear hydrodynamic stability; free surface and interfacial flows; modeling and simulation of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluid mechanics. 

 

E. Savory, C.Eng., P.Eng., Ph.D. (Surrey, UK), Associate Professor

Research interests include industrial and environmental aerodynamics; wind effects on buildings and structures; cavity flows; jets and plumes; hemodynamics.

 

K. Siddiqui, P.Eng., Ph.D. (Toronto, Canada), Associate Professor

Research interests include interfacial fluid dynamics and heat transfer; alternative and sustainable energy systems (solar, wind and thermo-acoustics); environmental flows; measurement techniques.

 

A. G. Straatman, P.Eng., Ph.D. (Waterloo, Canada), Associate Professor

Research interests include non-stationary turbulent Flows; pulsatile flows and hemo-dynamics; convective heat transfer; enhancement of convective heat transfer using porous metals; high-performance parallel computing; material property prediction in metal die-casting; application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

 

B. Tryggvason, P.Eng, M.E.Sc., Canadian Astronaut, Research Associate

Interests include microgravity; flight mechanics and dynamics; aircraft stability; space flight and exploration; autonomous robots and vehicles; engineering design.

 

J. Yang, P.Eng., Ph.D. (Alberta, Canada), Assistant Professor

Research interests include biofluidics/microfluidics/nanofluidics; lab-on-a-chip/biochip; nanotechnology, MEMS; biosensor; cell adhesion and signaling; single molecule kinetics; molecular self-assembly; colloid and surface science; smart materials and composites; biomechanics.

 

C. Zhang, P.Eng., Ph.D. (New Brunswick, Canada), Professor

Research interests include numerical simulations of gas-solid two-phase flows in fluidized beds and powder coating systems; vapor-liquid two-phase flows in power plant condensers; reactive turbulent flows in industrial furnaces and automobile engines.
