Welcome to the
Department of Mechanical & Materials Engineering
Most human-made features of civilization are the result of
engineering work. Mechanical and materials engineering concentrates on energy
conversion and conservation, and on moving machinery. The products of
mechanical and materials engineering are found everywhere - in houses and factories,
on roads and rails, in the air and outer space.
Because of the far-reaching effects of mechanical and materials engineering, it is one
of the most popular choices for students entering engineering studies.
As graduates of Western's program, mechanical engineers are versatile
professionals, interacting with and supporting all other branches of
engineering and many other professions as well.
